FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Columbia, SC – February 28, 2026 Pointé de Couture Wins Two Awards at Paris Lady MovieMakers Festival
Interdisciplinary filmmaker and composer Carol Higgins has received two additional international awards for her short film Pointé de Couture at the Paris Lady MovieMakers Festival. The film was honored with:
- Best Short Animation
- Best Poster
These recognitions bring the film’s total festival awards to six international honors.
The Paris Lady MovieMakers Festival celebrates the work of women filmmakers and highlights projects that demonstrate strong artistic vision, originality, and narrative impact. Pointé de Couture was selected among international entries for both its distinctive animated storytelling and its striking visual presentation.
Award Winning Poster Design
The film’s poster, also recognized with the Best Poster award, visually reflects the film’s layered narrative structure. The design juxtaposes Rose as a mysterious figure crowned with flowers above a flowing ribbon of red fabric, evoking both theatrical curtains and the act of unveiling hidden truths while hinting at the films connection to fabric and fashion. Beneath the fabric, two figures (Rose and Ella) race toward the center of the story, symbolizing competing versions of Cinderella’s history and the question posed in the film’s tagline: “Who Do You Believe?”
About the Film
Pointé de Couture is a non-linear musical retelling and deconstruction of Charles Perrault’s Cendrillon (Cinderella), rebuilt through historical research, autobiographical elements, and interdisciplinary storytelling. The film centers on Rose, a dressmaker whose artistry is misattributed to a mythical “fairy godmother,” inviting viewers to reconsider the authorship and historical narratives embedded within familiar stories.
About the Filmmaker
Carol Higgins is an interdisciplinary artist whose musical short films challenge stereotypes by intertwining autobiographical elements with narrative deconstruction. Her work spans music composition, performance, photography, and computer programming, with systems analysis informing the structural approach to her storytelling.
A graduate of Arizona State University’s Interdisciplinary Arts and Performance program, Higgins continues to explore perception, memory, and authorship through cross-disciplinary filmmaking.
