Pointé de Couture is an Official Selection of the 2025 ARFF Paris // International Film Festival

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Columbia, SC – June 23, 2025

Carol Higgins’ Pointé de Couture Selected as Semi-Finalist at ARFF Paris // International Film Festival

Filmmaker Carol Higgins is proud to announce that her short film Pointé de Couture was selected for the Around International Film Festival (ARFF) Paris 2025, where it premiered during the festival’s Paris screenings from June 19 – 23, 2025. The film advanced to the Semi-Finalist round of competition and has been honored with an official laurel from the festival.

The ARFF International network, which includes annual showcases in Paris, Barcelona, Amsterdam, and Berlin, recognizes independent filmmakers through its two-phase competition system: monthly selections and annual awards. Pointé de Couture was named an Official Monthly Selection in April 2025 before being re-evaluated and elevated to Semi-Finalist status in June 2025.

About the Film

Pointé de Couture is a non-linear, musical retelling and deconstruction of Charles Perrault’s Cendrillon (Cinderella). Stripped of its magic and rebuilt through historical research and Higgins’ autobiographical experiences, the film invites viewers to reconsider fairytale narratives and examine how historical “truths” embedded in stories may distort or oversimplify events. Through this interdisciplinary process, Higgins re-centers the story around Rose, a dressmaker whose artistry is overshadowed and misattributed, raising questions of authorship, recognition, and the hidden systems shaping the stories we inherit.

About the Filmmaker

Her creative background spans music, performance, photography, and computer programming, with systems analysis shaping the structure and rigor of her work. A graduate of Arizona State University’s Interdisciplinary Arts and Performance program, Higgins continues to explore perception, memory, and authorship through interdisciplinary practice.
