Carol Higgins’ Short Film Pointé de Couture Selected for KIDS FIRST! Film Festival
Independent filmmaker Carol Higgins is proud to announce that her short film Pointé de Couture has been officially selected by the KIDS FIRST! Film Festival, a global platform showcasing outstanding films for young audiences. Through this selection, the film will be made available to more than 50 affiliated venues worldwide, including children’s museums, film societies, and partner festivals.
Pointé de Couture is a non-linear, musical retelling and deconstruction of Charles Perrault’s Cendrillon (Cinderella) – stripped of its magic and rebuilt through historical research and Higgins’ autobiographical details. The film invites viewers to reconsider fairytale narratives and reflect on how stories that reference history may distort or oversimplify events. It re-centers the tale around Rose, a dressmaker whose artistry is overshadowed and misattributed, raising questions about authorship, recognition, and the hidden systems that shape the stories we inherit.
The film has already earned praise from KIDS FIRST! youth critics. Reviewer Zamyra G. wrote:
“I really enjoyed Pointé de Couture. It’s probably my favorite film of the day. It’s quite brilliant and very unique in its presentation… The film’s message is that we can’t believe everything we are told. I love how contemporary this idea is since we are all focused on misinformation and disinformation in today’s media world. This really might make one think twice about fairy tales and their validity.”

About the Filmmaker
Carol Higgins is an interdisciplinary artist whose musical short films challenge stereotypes by blending autobiographical elements with narrative deconstruction. Her background spans music, performance, photography, and computer programming, with systems analysis informing the conceptual rigor of her work. A graduate of Arizona State University’s Interdisciplinary Arts and Performance program, Higgins continues to explore perception, memory, and authorship through interdisciplinary practice.
